Big Visa News: New Skills in Demand (SID) Visa Update

The Australian Government has unveiled a transformative update to its skilled migration framework with the introduction of the Skills in Demand (SID) Visa, set to replace the TSS/SC482 Visa from 7 December 2024.
All TSS nominations and visa applications lodged before the 7th of December will be processed using the requirements in force at the time the application was lodged.
Visa validity up to 4 years
Temporary skilled workers can work in Australia for up to 4 years or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder.
Work Experience Reduction The work experience requirement has been reduced from 2 years to 1 year. The applicant should have gained your experience on a full-time, part-time or casual basis within the last 5 years. Work carried out on a part-time or casual basis must be equivalent to at least 12 months full-time work. The period of work does not need to be continuous. Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) The CSOL will apply to the Core Skills stream of the new Skills in Demand (SID) visa and the Direct Entry stream of the permanent Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa.
The CSOL comprises 456 occupations open to applicants under the Core Skills stream. Compared to the previous TSS lists, there have been significant changes, as shown below:

Permanent Residency - Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Sc 186 Visa
SID visa holders in all streams have a pathway to permanent residency (PR) under the ENS Transition (TRT) stream.
Greater flexibility in occupation classification (ANZSCO codes).
All full-time sponsored work in Australia counts towards ENS work experience.
Visa Application Charge (VAC)
These figures are aligned with the amounts that currently apply to applicants for the Medium-term stream of the Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage) visa.
