The Skills in Demand Visa, officially launched on December 7, 2024, allows skilled professionals with high-demand expertise to be sponsored by Australian employers. This visa is designed to fill gaps where Australian workers are unavailable or lack the necessary skills. It provides greater flexibility for workers, offering the option to change employers during their stay and lays out clear pathways to permanent residency.

The SID visa composes of 3 streams: Specialist Skills Stream, Core Skills Stream, and Labour Agreement Stream
What can you do with this visa?
Work
You can work in Australia for up to 4 years or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder.
Study
You can study but you won’t receive government assistance.
Travel
You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid.
Permanent Residency
You can apply for Permanent Residency, if eligible.

Specialist Skills & Core Skills Streams Only
Have a nominated position included on the occupation list:
Specialist Skills Stream - nominated position in an ANZSCO-listed occupation, excluding those in Major Groups 3, 7, or 8 (trades workers, machinery operators, drivers, and labourers)
Core Skills Stream - nominated occupation specified on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)
Must be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor
Have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in the nominated occupation on a full-time, part-time or casual basis within the last 5 years. Work carried out on a part-time or casual basis must be equivalent to at last 12 months full-time work. The period of work does not need to be continuous.
Have relevant skills and qualifications to perform the nominated occupation
Have a positive skills assessment, if required
Meet minimum standards of English language proficiency, unless exempted
Meet health and character requirements
Labour Agreement Stream Only
Must be nominated and working under a labour agreement
Have at least 1 year of work experience, unless otherwise specified in the Labour Agreement, you have gained at least 12 months relevant full-time work experience, or equivalent, within the last 5 years. Work carried out on a part-time or casual basis must be equivalent to at least 12 months full-time work.
Have the level of English language suitable for the nominated occupation, unless the labour agreement provides an English language concession.

AUD700.00 (Subsequent Temporary Application Charge)
Turnaround:
Core Skills Stream: 2-4 months (subject to change)
Medium-term Stream: 2-5 months (subject to change)
Labour Agreement Stream: 2-4 months (subject to change)
